Southold Citizens for Safe Roads is a citizens-based public interest group dedicated to confronting the impact of vehicular traffic on the health, welfare and safety of the people of Southold Town and on the town’s fragile environment and historically significant resources. Because we have identified unregulated traffic generated by the Cross Sound Ferry as the most significant vehicular threat to the town’s welfare, our goal is to have CSF’s operations limited to levels appropriate to the size of its facility; the environmental sensitivity of its location in a Critical Environmental Area adjacent to a National Natural Landmark; the capacity and characteristics of Southold Town’s roads; and the vulnerability of the town’s groundwater and bay systems to road runoff and non-point-source pollution.
